In open rhinoplasty, a small incision is made on the columella (the strip of tissue between the nostrils), allowing the surgeon better access to the nasal structures. 

In closed rhinoplasty, all incisions are made inside the nostrils, resulting in no visible external scarring.

Recovery from rhinoplasty typically involves some swelling and bruising around the nose and eyes, which gradually improves over the course of a few weeks. Patients may need to wear a splint on their nose for the first week to support and protect it. 

While some results may be visible immediately after surgery, it can take several months for the swelling to fully subside and for the final results of rhinoplasty to become apparent.
