 A tummy tuck is a surgical procedure aimed at improving the appearance of the abdomen by removing excess skin and fat, tightening the abdominal muscles, and contouring the area for a flatter, more toned look. 

Good candidates for a tummy tuck are individuals who have excess abdominal skin and fat, weakened or separated abdominal muscles (diastasis recti), and realistic expectations about the outcome of the surgery.  Candidates should be in good overall health and at a stable weight. 

During a tummy tuck, Dr. Nguyen makes an incision along the lower abdomen, usually from hip to hip, and removes excess skin and fat. The abdominal muscles may also be tightened if necessary to create a firmer, flatter abdominal profile. The remaining skin is then repositioned and sutured closed. 

Like any surgical procedure, a tummy tuck carries some risks, including infection, bleeding, poor wound healing, fluid accumulation, asymmetry, numbness, and scarring. These risks are relatively low when the procedure is performed by a board-certified plastic surgeon such as Dr. Nguyen.
